Overview
If the installation of an update is interrupted before it is completed (e.g. the device was restarted or shutdown), the software will become corrupt and will not allow you to install the update. You will need to uninstall the software with the help of a third-party tool so that you can reinstall the application.
Diagnosis
- Installation of an update was interrupted and you cannot install the latest version.
- While installing an update, the installer fails or it is frozen/locked. It does not progress. You cannot install the update.
- The Microsoft Uninstaller tool (Found in the Programs and Features section in the Control Panel) does not remove the corrupted software.
Solution
Prerequisites
- Having access to the device's Software.
- Downloading the CCleaner software.
When you try to uninstall the Mobilogy software by using the Add/Remove Programs feature of Windows, you may not always be successful. For example, the uninstallation process might fail due to the corrupted installation, or despite uninstalling the software, you may still find it listed in the installed programs. If you experience such cases, the best option is to use an external uninstallation tool.
We always recommend CCleaner to uninstall the corrupted software safely. CCleaner FREE can uninstall programs just like the Programs and Features feature in Windows. However, CCleaner is better because once you have installed many programs, the Add/Remove Programs feature takes a long time to start and sometimes it does not uninstall all the references to an existing program (like Registry Keys, etc).
Also, CCleaner is better because you can delete a "ghost entry" in the programs list.
Sometimes even after you’ve uninstalled a program, its ghost entry will remain listed in the Add or Remove Programs or Programs and Features list under currently installed programs in the Control Panel. This is usually caused by a badly installed program that doesn’t properly uninstall itself. The entry is not removed from the registry and therefore remains in the list. If you try to uninstall it again, you’ll most likely just get an error message.
Uninstalling ghost entries option is useful when you need to clean the list of installed programs. It is also useful for cases where someone had deleted the program folder manually without running the installer.
Uninstalling Programs via CCleaner
To Uninstall a program using the CCleaner tool, please follow this guide:
- Open CCleaner.
- Click on the Tools icon on the left menu.
- In the Uninstall screen (selected by default), click on the program (the old Mobilogy version) that you want to uninstall.
- Click Uninstall to run the program's uninstaller.
If you have a long list of installed programs, start typing in the search field. It automatically narrows down the list of programs. You can search for the program's name or manufacturer. For example, typingMobi
returns all the available programs on the list published by Mobilogy. -
Once the click on Uninstall you will receive this dialog:
When you click yes, you will see a status bar, and then the program will disappear from the Programs to Remove list.
Testing
To confirm that the file was uninstalled indeed, follow these steps:
- Press Win + R to bring the "Run" window and run the command "appwiz.cpl" as shown in the following picture:
- That will open the Uninstall or Change a Program window. Search for the program you just Uninstalled and it should not be shown there.
