Overview
You are facing intermittent Textpass Process Restart on SMSC, and in Syslogs you find alarm errors like the following:
May 9 07:56:10 TKLCBU-TPR05 snmptrapd[2679]: 07:56:10 TRAP6.TEXTPASS-GEN-MIB::applicationHeartBeatMissed TEXTPASS-GEN-MIB::deviceType.0 = STRING: "RTR" from TKLCBU-TPR05
May 9 07:56:11 TKLCBU-TPR05 textpass: Missing health signal, missed 2 signals, allowed 5
You are also experiencing a failed hardware situation (for example, failed disk).
Solution
The Textpass process is being restarted by the watchdog due to missed health signals. This happens when responses between textpass and its watchdog process are not exchanged correctly. The likely reasons for this are high traffic load or other hardware (Disk/ CPU) related issues.
- Please check if there are any core dumps generated with the restarts. If yes, please contact Newnet support and share the same with them.
- If there are no core dumps, please get your existing Hardware issue resolved, which is also likely to fix this reported issue. Textpass process on this node can be stopped till the time. There should be no loss of service as other nodes in the network would be available to handle the traffic.
