Overview
You are changing the motherboard/hardware and would like to know if any changes/reinstallation needs to be made for the Operating System (OS).
Solution
Before changing the motherboard, the following should be in place:
- Server backup should be completed before starting the activity of changing the motherboard. While the server is powered OFF, 1 of the OS Disks (should be in Slot 2) can be taken out for safekeeping. This would provide a Mirror backup of the OS disk.
- Motherboard being replaced is the same make/model as the new one.
There is no need to reinstall the OS. It could be possible that interfaces integrated to the motherboard need re-configuration. Example, ethernet interfaces might get new identifiers so could require reconfiguring. Also, all drivers would have to be up to date.
After the motherboard replacement is done, and the system boots fine using Disk 1, then the backed up (i.e., the removed OS) disk can be re-inserted to sync with Disk 1.
