Replacing a failed PSU (Power Supply Unit)

Overview

The Cache Engine has an error stating that the "PSU is not configured" indicating that your Power Supply Unit has failed.

When a PSU fails or becomes defective, iDRAC shows the PSU with a Present|Failure|Input lost|Input lost or out-of-range|Configuration error Status as shown here:

This article provides some basic troubleshooting steps and recommended actions when this problem occurs.

Solution

In order to confirm a defective or failed PSU (Power Supply Unit), Dell recommends trying to remove then reinsert the PSU in a different slot. If the PSU fails in another slot and still blinking orange, the PSU is defective and should be replaced with a new one following the applicable Dell appliance replacement protocol as informed by the warranty status.

Customers can reference the Information about Hardware article to confirm the warranty status for their server to determine eligibility for replacement parts.
